There is no secret ingredient, you just have to believe in yourself.
19 mars Only in America1. Only in

I remember all my life Raining down as cold as ice A shadow of a man A face through a window Crying in the night The night goes into Morning, just another day Happy people pass my way Looking in their eyes I see a memory I never realized How happy you made me, oh Mandy Well you came and you gave without taking but I sent you away, oh Mandy well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking I need you today, oh Mandy I'm standing on the edge of time I Walked away when love was mine Caught up in a world of uphill climbing The tears are in my mind And nothing is rhyming, oh Mandy Well you came and you gave without taking but I sent you away, oh Mandy well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking And I need you today, oh Mandy Yesterday's a dream I face the morning Crying on the breeze the pain is calling, oh Mandy Well you came and you gave without taking but I sent you away, oh Mandy well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking And I need you today, oh Mandy 15 octobre Stories that I wanna share with youFire-alarm Once a night I was studying (actually at that time was sleeping) in the campus library, suddenly came an alarm. Everybody stood up and looked around, “Hoho, a fire? It should be kidding!” still stay still. Yet the alarm kept going on, in a sudden paused followed by a broadcast with a middle-age man’s voice: “This is not a test, evacuate the building immediately” Soon everybody rushed out. I then realized that this damn building holds so many industrial students, included me.
All about Blue bus (No.3) – 恋上12:25 I am used to study on campus till late night and catch the last No. 3 bus (12:25am) back home. One night, finally, I lost track of time. After I realized there is only 1 min left, I rushed out from Hamilton Hall, 300meters dashed to the bus stop, yet the bus was already gone and moved to another crossing. Frustrated, breathlessly I returned to Hamilton. 30mins later, at last I recalled the RIGHT phone No. of help center that somebody told me and dialed to it. I was asked to wait outside the hall. Soon came a car with a big HELP sign on the body, inside sat a fat guy. He told me his shift was till 3am, “If you missed the last bus or are afraid of darkness, coldness, please call till 6am. “ Then I began to think, is there anybody calling at 3 with the reason of missing a bus? If not, probably I may try to be the first one.
It was a cold night last Friday. As I got on the bus, I found among 10 passengers, 9 were Indians, MALE; the other one, of course, me. Till I sat down, I noticed the bus driver, hoho, that “most handsome guy among the drivers" (Quoted from my roommate) almost with different hair-styles every time I saw him, this time, BAREHEADED. “He is so rich!” Because it costs about 15 even to trim his hair here, needless to say having any treatment (those wanna have a hair-perm have to pay at least 80.) Hoho, again I reconfirm my mind that never goes to the barber’s within two yrs.
2 septembre Enjoy a LONG weekend and Labor day (Sep05)Already three weeks since arrived in Ames, many people asked me my feeling about here or the U.S.. Actually I am not that excited. Perhaps it was a sharp contrast to me within a day since I boarded from Hong Kong at Aug 12th and also reached San Francisco at 12th, the next day transferred to Des Moines (State Capital of Iowa). It is still far beyond my imagination although my relatives already kept reminding me of how rural area the U.S. is in advance. Whereas Hong Kong which boasts tall buildings, facile transportation, fast mobile population and dynamics of neon lights still ranks the top among my favorite cities!
I almost got my residential stuff prepared within the first week, such as an N-hand mattress and sheet from a Chinese family ($8), table and desk ($29.96+$7.62), of which above are from Wal-Mart, cookers, seasonings and food. With respect to shopping, many things indeed are CHEAP in US dollars! Yet I still cannot help multiplying 8 while reading the price-tags. I got my bed pillow ($5) after enjoying my sleep on a stack of books for a whole week, an alarm clock ($3.82), moreover, a fantastic second-hand washer ($40, $20 each) which means I no longer pile up my dirty clothes on the floor. Perhaps this washer is the most right deal for me since the seller- A Chinese PhD in computer science who is ready to start a career in San Diego, later sent us a big sofa, a TV table, piles of beef, fish, seasonings, cleaners plus a square mirror for FREE!
As I mentioned before in my letter “Arrived in Ames”, I was complaining about what to cook and how to cook. Yet it is no more a big deal since there comes a more troublesome one - my class! 4 classes that I registered this semester were Mass Communication Theory, Public Relations Campaign, Designing for the Mass Media and Introduction to Graduate Study; the former two require a lot of readings – normally 50 pages per day! I am then stuffed in book bricks in which mostly 4 lines compose a sentence everyday.
Although my class schedule is a tough one for me, I still go and find a part-time job in dining services on campus only because I wanna get a SSN (social security number) ASAP. I hope I have made a good decision.
My class arrives in 13 students - included 3 Chinese, 3 Korean, 1 from Panama and 1 from Ukraine this semester. Others are residents, with one already retired with probably 50, several already at work.
I supposed to post my photos here, yet declined at last since I still do not own a laptop. Fortunately my pretty roommate would like to share her computer, only can I keep up with information around the world. Life is still of ease and fun in that I can watch fat grey rabbit stands still and gazes at me when I pass by, crow swaggers along the road or squirrel awaits and scurries across the street.
To be continued, 16 août Arrived in AmesTo those who care for me,
I arrived in Ames at last Sat, Aug13, yet I am busy with my orientation stuff these days, moreover, I still have no computer. So it would be quite inconvenient for me to access the internet.
Here in Ames boasts peaceful environment, you can see grass fields around, squirrels, rabbits and big sparrows- quite different from those in China. Yet the weather here is quite cool in both morning and night while very hot at noon.
With respect to my campus life, I still do not figure out the direction here although Ames is quite a small city. Cars are legs here, it is difficult for me to go to Walmart, cud foods in downtown. And I got jet-lagged, little sleep, and stomachache with American foods. Sigh, if only I can cook better!
I will post the pictures as soon as possible. |
